Writing support for students

Support for PhDs at critical junctures in the journey

The Language Development Group offers many kinds of writing support for postgraduates. For example, The Writing Centre is a walk-in consultancy service for all students including postgraduates to discuss academic writing. Postgraduates are encouraged to set up a structured relationship with the Writing Centre with specific time-frames, preferably from early in the research process. See the Writing Centre website at www.writingcentre.uct.ac.za. There are exciting courses such as Navigating Research Writing for prospective and current students. This blended learning course assists students to articulate research interests in an exploratory ‘concept paper', and exposes them to concepts and resources essential to becoming a confident researcher. Enquiries: Lucia Thesen Write Science is an opportunity to engage in different forms of scientific writing beyond the thesis. The core focus of Write Science will include writing for journal publication, peer review and communicating to a public audience. This four-week interactive online learning experience is interspersed with three face-to-face contact days of workshops. Enquiries Mathilde van der Merwe.
